Gina, Maddi and I headed headed down to Canberra on Saturday 4th April for the Gear Up Girl Challenge. We stayed overnight in a cabin at the Canberra Motor Village. In the morning, We made our way across to Weston Park. Maddi fed the swans while we waited for the ride to get under way.

Swans on Lake Burley-Griffin
We were attempting the 60k ride to Pt. Hut. There were 5 or 600 participants, some doing a 20k loop.

Receiving Instructions at The Start
The ride was mainly on cycleway, winding around Lake Burley Griffin to the Governer General’s residence, then up into Weston Creek. We rode around Lake Tugeranong and then on to Pt Hut. Both were very beautiful, with a large lakes and parklands.

Me
To this point the ride had not been strenuous, so we were surprised when we reached the first major hill on the return journey. This half of the ride proved to be the challenge, but the bike paths and parkland throughout the journey made all of us NSW folk realise just how lucky those that live in our National Capital are.

Gina at Finish
We thoroughly enjoyed Gear Up Girl and were thrilled to receive a beautiful GUG helmet each. Maddi even won a jersey!
As usual the volunteers who made the event run so smoothly, were friendly and did an awesome job. We can’t thank them enough, these events could not happen without them.
